How To Carve A Halloween Pumpkin
It’s almost time for the spookiest, ghouliest, goriest holiday of the year – Halloween!
With our favourite day (and new collection) coming up, we decided to let our resident photographer, Phi, loose with some knives and pumpkins to try some classic carving. Here are his step-by-step instructions on how to create some Halloween pumpkin heads of your own!

Step 1
Buy pumpkins! And make sure you have a good sharp knife, garbage bags and some sort of drop sheet at the ready, because things are about to get MESSY.
(All our pumpkins for our Halloweenia shoot were kindly donated to us by Milton Fruit Bowl!)

Step 2
Turn on YouTube and watch a tutorial on how to make Halloween pumpkins. Follow instructions. Realise instructions are for a different type of pumpkin – the ones I had were a lot more solid and impossible to hollow out. Lament the fact that I just wasted 30 minutes of my time on pumpkin number one. Dump YouTube.

Step 3
Skip the hollowing of the pumpkins and go straight to outlining the face you want to cut out.

Step 4
Cut out your face with a sharp knife. Make sure you’re super careful not to cut yourself! We don’t want to add any REAL blood to our Halloween decor.

Step 5
Done!

Step 6
Take cute pics of your crafty work!
Note: This is a super quick and easy way to carve some creepy faces into your pumpkins, but if you want to actually light candles inside them, you will have to buy a pumpkin that is soft enough to hollow out! Pumpkin types vary depending on where you live and the time you are shopping for them, but the best carving varieties will often be described as ‘Jack-O-Lantern pumpkins’.
Feeling inspired? When you carve your very own pumpkins, don’t forget to take pics, and tag us so we can share the love!
