Hey friends! It’s story-time, so grab yourself some snacks and settle in. This is a story of legs, shoes, and having the coolest BFFs in the world.
ONCE UPON A TIME...
Back in 2009, we had a photo-shoot. Our model – the always lovely Sara – rocked up in the most amazing pair of shoes we had ever seen. Ever. EVER. They were black boots with a sky-high platform and this amazing silver strip along the sole. That’s right – we had just been introduced to the Jeffrey Campbell Back Off.
Naturally we asked Sara where we could find these amazing shoes. And also naturally, it wasn’t in little old Brisbane. It was in Portland, Oregon, from a talented group of shoe-fiends called Solestruck. They had made it their goal to hunt down all the most out-there, amazing shoes on earth and sell ‘em all online. We liked the way they thought!
So we bought a pair.
And then a few other sneaky pairs, here and there. And then we lost our minds a little bit and bought a whole load of shoes. You know how it is with amazing shoes, sometimes you just can’t control yourself.
Our shoe obsession escalated to the point where we probably needed some kind of intervention. Of course, instead of staging an intervention, Captain Cam emailed the Solestruck team on the 8th of August 2011 and asked them to give us shoes. Like, for free.
On the 11th of August we got our reply: a great big yes from the Solestruck team! We had all the shoes a fashion label could ever need. Cue party poppers and dancing. The email that started it all finished with “some kind of collab in the future would be amazing”. Watch this space.
When Solestruck started sending us shoes, we discovered one thing very quickly: they were more awesome than we could have possibly imagined. Edgy. Different. They basically owned the term ‘killer heels’ and were exactly what we needed.
It wasn’t long before we were exclusively using Solestruck shoes in our photo-shoots and let me tell you, if we had a dollar for every time someone asked us “where’d you get those shoes?!” we’d all be retired on a beach in the Caribbean.
They even hooked us up with Jeffrey Campbell, and exclusively stocked a range of JC shoes (including those Back Offs we fell in love with back in ’09!) with our prints on ‘em. Coolest BFFs EVER.
It looked like Solestruck and Black Milk Clothing were a match made in heaven. It was time to take the next step in our relationship, and since two brands can’t really get married we figured there was only one thing to do…
THE 1ST COLLABORATION
In October 2013, it happened.
The one throwaway line at the end of an email, the suggestion that it would be cool to collaborate one day, was finally brought to life. And it was, dare we say, glorious.
Meet the James, the Cam, the Shak, and the Charli. Named after our own team members, we were super proud of our first shoes. They had everything we wanted – fantastic prints, unique styles, and just the right amount of outrageousness. This crazy cool collection was previewed at SharkieCon Vegas 2013, and the Soletruck team were on hand to bring the party.
We had an absolute blast, the girls loved the new shoes, and when we officially launched them they went like hotcakes. (Although you can still grab a few style right here :P)
THE 2ND COLLABORATION
After the resounding success of our first collaboration, we put our heads together with the Solestruck rockstars came up with a brilliant plan: DO IT AGAIN.
So we did.
We knew we had to up the game from the last collection, but Solestruck were up to the challenge. They took all the greatest parts from our first collection and gave us…more. More amazing prints, more sky-high platforms, more amazing styling…just more!
In our second collection we introduced the Bonnie, the Jovy-Anne, and the Lana, continuing our tradition of naming the shoes after our very own staff members.
The second collaboration was a total hit. Hi-fives all ‘round.
But what’s next for the dynamic duo? Well, we’re gonna start with another collection! Good things come in threes and we reckon this is going to be great.
While I’d love to tell you what’s gonna be in our third collaboration with Solestruck, we don’t know yet. See, we’re throwing that decision out to our community. At SharkieCon Vegas 2014, on the first weekend of October, we’ll be setting up a whole bunch of different styles and getting our SharkieCon babes to vote for their favs. Then we’ll make ‘em, then we’ll release ‘em – hopefully by the end of the year! It’s gonna be a great time, promise. There will be selfies by the thousand.
So while this story might not feature any dragons (yet…), there are definitely adventures in our future. With BFFs like the crazy team over at Solestruck, how could there be anything but? Can’t wait.
