Hey guys!
James from BMC here, with a (pretty rare) blog post for you!
I have some very exciting news, which I wanted to personally share with you - our wonderful customers - before sharing it with the rest of the world.
As you are probably aware, the early history of BlackMilk is a classic start-up story. One guy with a dodgy sewing machine on the kitchen table making clothes purely for the love of it. I loved it for two reasons – seeing girls wear my clothes was such a buzz, and I didn’t have to get a real job!
Not much has changed there, to be honest.
But in so many ways so much else has changed. On this crazy journey that we have been on for the last eight years we have had our fair share of ups and downs. There were times where it felt like we could do no wrong and everything we touched turned to gold. There were other times where it felt like we just couldn’t get anything right, and everything we touched turned to… another substance.
And here we are, BlackMilk 2017.
I’m incredibly grateful for everything that we have achieved since we began BlackMilk. I really have been able to live out my dreams because of this great little company. I have had magical moments that will stay with me for the rest of my life, and for many of these moments you guys were there, which means a huge amount to me.
However, I still have a lot of dreams! There’s still a lot of ambition there. There’s so much I want to do with BlackMilk but I haven’t been able to.
I suppose the way I see it, although BlackMilk is more than I ever imagined it would be, it is still so far off what it could be! And that bugs me. I want to do better for you guys. I want to give you more! We want to improve in so many areas of our business where we don’t feel like we have done as well as we could have. We want to explore new opportunities and get really creative! But most of all we want you, the customer, to really fall in love with all the exciting things that we are doing.
So we have made a really big decision that I feel is going to allow us to be all that we can be and truly realise all the incredible potential that is in this company.
We have hired a new CEO.
This is something that I personally have been thinking about for a while now and I finally felt like the time was right this year.
The great news is that after a lot of searching we have found an amazing leader who we really believe is going to bring together the incredible team that we have and build a truly great, global business.
So I would like to give a very warm welcome to Sally Osburn – the first officially appointed CEO of BlackMilk Clothing!
I am really grateful for Sally coming on board with us, and I’m really looking forward to working with her. Sally has a huge amount of experience in the apparel industry and an amazing set of skills when it comes to building great companies. Above anything else she has an incredible passion for making BlackMilk all that it can be, and for me personally that is the most exciting thing.
So what does all this mean practically for us as a company and for you as a customer (or as a sharkie)?!
It means we going to get focused on giving you the best quality products that we can possibly make. It means we are going to get a vision for opening up exciting new categories. It means we are going to get excited again about growing!
Some of you who are wondering what all this might mean for me personally. Does that mean I will still be part of the company? Definitely! I will keep working with the design team, and I really look forward to working with Sally to build something truly spectacular.
So that’s my big news, I hope you’re excited about it as I am! :)
I do want to finish off with a massive thank you to all of YOU. Getting to this point has been an amazing journey, and I really owe it to you guys – incredible customers who have supported us through thick and thin and continue to be passionate about our products. You guys are amazing, and you’re the reason we do this every day.
So stay posted, you’re going to see some really exciting things happening in the near future!
Hugs :)
